Jordy Smith - Team O'Neill - World nr.1 in Surf : Go Yellow!

Jordy Smith rocks the yellow rashie going into Trestles

After a massive win over John John Florence at Teahupo'o, South African (Durban) surfer and O’Neill team rider Jordy Smith storms into the World Surf League Trestles (California) clash sporting the prized yellow rashie. Or in Jordy’s case the awesome yellow Transit Jacket.

That’s right, in this transitional season of autumn and with the World Title in his sights, the light insulation, O’Neill Hyperdry and recycled polyester shell of the hooded Transit Jacket are perfect for getting Jordy to the beach and back in winning style. A style that also earned Jordy wins at Trestles in 2014 and 2016.

The fact is that coming into this contest in yellow is the closest Jordy’s been to taking the World Title since the 2010/11 season, before he got injured and came second to Kelly (Slater).

To support Jordy at Trestles O’Neill launches the ‘Yellow Campaign’ turning some of their stores (Amsterdam, Nieuwpoort, Oberhausen) yellow to back him up. His teammates Jeremy Jones, Kevin Langeree and Nico von Lerchenfeld are also going full yellow, so Jordy’s got some solid support as he takes on the heavy hitters of the WSL.

Jordy Leads the Surf Title Race

Team O’Neill ace Jordy Smith has been surfing great all season. Jordy has been part of the O’Neill Family for almost 10 years, and has grown into one of the best surfers in the world. During that era he has pushed the boundaries of our high performance wetsuits & boardshorts. The 29-year-old South African is now the current world number 1.

Jordy Smith has been on fire all season, working hard and getting keeper results. The highlight of the season was winning at Bells Beach in Australia, ending a 10-year quest. Last week, Jordy again muscled his way to the semi-final, beating John John Florence for his best career result in Tahiti (3rd Place).

With 4 events left on the calendar, Jordy Smith is leading the pack. The Team O'Neill pro will have the honor of wearing the yellow jersey, (like the Tour de France) a symbolic jersey for the leader. Next stop: Trestles, California - where he is the defending champion. This is the year Jordy!

About O'Neill

O'Neill, the original California surf, snow and lifestyle brand, was founded in 1952 when a young man named Jack O'Neill took his unstoppable passion for surfing and used it to beat Mother Nature at her own game.

Pioneering the world's first neoprene surf wetsuit, Jack had successfully found a way to extend his surf sessions in the bone-chilling breaks of Northern California. He opened up the garage doors to his first surf shop soon after.
While many things have changed since those humble beginnings, Jack's initial vision of producing functional and innovative board riding products continues to inspire people and empower them to do what they love doing most.
